5 TIPS TO PROTECT YOUR CURLS IN THE SUMMER!

Summer means sun, wonderful! But a lot of sun also means dry or damaged curls. We probably all recognize this, you are in a warm country and your curls are dried out by the pool and the sea. In that case, these care tips are super important.

  1. Add moisture to your routine

Moisture, you often hear it and it sounds logical, because moisture literally means 'moisture'. Your curls can't live without it. Adding products to your routine that add moisture is therefore very important. Our tip is to use sulfate-free products if you want to follow this tip carefully. Sulfate-free products do not make the scalp dry and are better for the nourishment of the hair. Use a CG friendly shampoo and apply a nourishing mask to your hair once a week. So make sure you take a mask, our All-in-One Treatment, with you on holiday. This ensures that your curls are well nourished and hydrated.

  1. Protect your curls from chlorine

Chlorine is a disinfectant and can make your hair porous. Yet it is simple to protect your hair against chlorine. All you do is rinse your curls with tap water before entering the pool ! Because there is 'clean' water in your hair, salt and chlorine are less successful in penetrating your hair.

However, this is not enough because some substances can penetrate and cause your curls to become dry. It is therefore advisable to rinse your hair with normal water after swimming and, if necessary, put a conditioner in your hair to nourish it.

  1. Protect your curls from the sun

A simple but effective way to minimize your hair's exposure to the sun is to wear acap, bandana or hat. Would you rather not have a cap on your head? Wear your curls in a bun or make braids in your hair.

Do you have wet hair? Beware of the sun!

Water droplets not only increase the burning effect on your skin, but also on your hair. Have you just taken a refreshing dip in the pool? Then dry your hair with a (microfiber) towel or place a cloth over your curls when going out in the sun.

  1. Use oil

You can retain moisture in your hair by sealing it with a Sealing oil. How do you use an oil? It is recommended to do this following the LOG method: Once you have washed your hair and are doing your styling routine, first apply a leave-in conditioner. As a second step, take some oil between your palms and distribute it through the points. Finally, apply a gel. Sealing your hair retains moisture in your curls for longer.

  1. After your holiday

You are back in the Netherlands and continue to care for your (dry) curls. What can help to wash chlorine, salt and sand from your hair is to do a final wash . Sulfate ensures that everything is cleaned properly. Then follow with a mask with protein or moisture and let it sit for 10 minutes.
