Jan 26, 2024
Sagging curls are super annoying. You've done your best during wash day, and after a few hours your curls start to sag again. This can have several reasons: you use too much product, products that are too heavy, you have build-up, you don't use protein, or a blow dryer, etc. etc.
With these tips you can prevent your curls from falling out again after a few hours.
TIP 1: CUT LAYERS INTO YOUR HAIR
It is so important to have a good shape in your hair. Find a good curly hair stylist near you who knows how to cut layers in hair. .
What do you ask the hairdresser then?
Of course, the curly hair stylist is good at his/her job. Let your hairdresser advise you. They will look at and feel your curls, and can use that to determine which shape is most suitable for your curls. Ask the hairdresser to cut the top layer of your hair shorter than the bottom. This also provides extra volume because 'air' is cut into your curls.
Your curls can be a bit messed up when they've just been cut. Don't panic! This will last for a maximum of 2 weeks, after a few stylings you'll see that your hair is curling again or curling better than before.
TIP 2: USE PRODUCTS WITH PROTEIN
Quickly sagging curls can also indicate a lack of protein in your hair. The balance between protein and moisture is very important to make your curl curl well.
At the too much fluid (too little protein), your hair stretches a lot and does not bounce back into the curl. This will cause your curls to sag and can feel very soft. So every hair needs protein, but some hair needs more than others.
Do you have very damaged hair? Then use a mask with protein at least once a week. You can do this by mixing our All-in-One Treatment with the protein drops.
Is your hair not damaged? Even then you need protein every now and then.
TIP 3: USE ENOUGH PRODUCTS ON YOUR WASH DAY
You may be familiar with the term less = more if you style your hair with curl products. However, you should not use too little product. Divide your hair into sections, 4 or 6 parts. Take a pea-sized amount on very wet hair, dilute the product with water in your hand if necessary. Continue until you have filled each strip of your hair with product. Use more gel than leave-in/cream!
Is your hair 80% dry? You can add extra gel by glazing and scrunching some gel over your hair. This will give extra definition and hold.
