Mask with protein vs Gel with protein
I'm always curious about the effects of different products and techniques on my curls, so I can't help but keep testing and comparing. Today was another day like that...
FINAL WASH TO RESET YOUR CURLS
First of all, I started with a final wash with the Jumbo Every Day Shampoo.
TIP: It is really advisable to do this a few times a year to reset your hair as well.
Why? Because last week I had my hair treated with a bleach to freshen up my curls, and it had been years since I had done a final wash.
I applied the final wash shampoo all over my hair, not just on the scalp.
HAIR MASK WITH AND WITHOUT PROTEIN
Then I applied a hair mask, from another brand, with large proteins on the right side (for me on the left but picture on the right) of my hair and used the All-in-One Treatment on the left side . After five minutes rinse the mask and the Treatment.
Then applied the All-in-One Styling Cream to my soaking wet hair in the shower (1 pump).
I applied the squish to condish method by holding my hair briefly under the shower head three times and scrunching in between.
With this method you ensure that you can squeeze moisture and nutrition into your curls and it will also be better distributed. It is important that you still leave product in your curls, you can feel this because it still feels nice and smooth.
This photo shows how the curls look soaking wet, you can already see more curl on the left..
STYLING GEL WITH AND WITHOUT PROTEIN
Then applied our Styling Gel to the right side in soaking wet hair, without protein because that side had already had a mask with protein.
On the left side the Styling Gel with our protein drops used to restore the balance so that both sides contain proteins.
Then squeezed out excess water with the hydrophilic towel and dried with the diffuser.
What and how much was used:
Final wash: a handful
Mask from Brand X (not going to mention the name but is very popular and has 2 proteins in the first 5 ingredients): a big dollop
All-in-One Treatment: 2 pumps
All-in-One Styling Cream: 1 pump
Styling Gel: 2 pumps
Protein Drops: 5 drops
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MASK WITH PROTEIN vs. GEL WITH PROTEIN
Left: more definition and shine
Right: less definition and less shine
CONCLUSION: For me it works better to add the drops to the gel.
Of course, it could also be that the proteins in the mask from brand X are not doing enough for my curls, but the fact is that I am more happy with the result with the protein drops.
And well, I may be walking around with 2 different outcomes,,, but personally this is really the best method to find out how your curls react to different products / techniques etc.
Hope this has inspired you to test products in this way.
